Latin Name Nerium Oleander
Description Can grow to 3 Metres (10ft) tall. The leaves are long and pointed with a prominent rib. The pink or red flowers form into large clusters. There are several varieties of cultivated Oleanders so colour does vary.
Hazards This plant is extremely dangerous. Eating it can be fatal. Even smoke from a fire burning its wood is toxic.
Effects Abdominal pain, vomiting, diarrhoea, visual disturbances, rapid pulse, heart disfunction causing death. The sap if in contact with the skin can cause blistering, irritation and soreness.
Flowering Period Spring and Summer.
Location Gardens, parks and also as a greenhouse plant.
