| Description |
The plant usually
grows to about 60 cm (2ft) tall. The flowers vary in colour as there are many cultivated
varieties growing in gardens. The field poppy is red with black stigmas'. The leaves and
stems are covered in bristly hairs. |

papaver species are poisonous if eaten except for the seeds, but various alkaloids
are present in all parts of the plants. |
