Latin Name Hypholoma fasciculare
Description Fungi. The cap is domed turning to a bell shape approx. 5 cm (2 ins.) across, it is sulphur yellow tinged to orange tan towards the centre. The stalk is often curved growing to 5 - 15 cm (2 - 6 ins.) high. The gills are yellow turning to an olive green then to brown when mature.
Hazards Some of this species are edible and very similar in appearance so unless positively identified do not eat any.
Effects Breathing difficulties, dizziness, headache, vomiting and diarrhoea. The symptoms usually appear within two hours of consuming and recovery within 24 hours unless severe.
Growing Season All year round but especially abundant in Autumn. Very common.
Location Dense clusters on stumps of deciduous and coniferous trees.
