Latin Name Iris Pseudacorus
Description Green sword-like leaves, the flowers are deep yellow which proceed from a sheath type bract, the parts of the flower are in threes. The petals are curved, erect towards the centre of the flower.
Hazards All the plant is poisonous and can cause skin allergies. The leaves if handled can be sharp edged and cut the skin.
Effects Severe vomiting and diarrhoea if eaten. The sap can cause blistering or irritation of the skin. The leaves can cut if handled.
Flowering Period May to August.
Location Riverbanks, ditches, lakes, ponds and any swampy type marshland.
