Latin Name Taxus Baccata
Description This tree can grow to about 20 Metres (65ft) tall. It is a spreading evergreen, often living for several hundred years. The leaves are leathery in texture and shaped similar to a reaping hook, shiny and dark above, pale and unpolished below. The fruits are pinkish red berries. 
Hazards Poisoning has occurred after eating the leaves or the fruits. It is the seed within the fruit which is poisonous.
Effects Nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, convulsions or even death in severe cases.
Flowering Period Yellow anthers appear in February and March. The fruits appear in Autumn.
Location Parks and gardens also very common in churchyards. Grows commonly in chalk or limestone areas.
